If you are tired of getting high electricity bills every month, you have come to the right place. I used to go all crazy to get such high bills every month.

I even contacted the electricity company to see if there is any misunderstanding going on. However, sadly there wasn’t, and I had to reduce my electricity bill anyway.

If you have a large family or you live in a big house, you are prone to get a high electricity bill. Fortunately, there are ways you can reduce your electricity bill.

You will not only save a good amount of money every month; you will be helping out the environment by saving energy as well.

1. Unplug all the electrical appliances you are not using

It is probably the first habit you will need to get used to. For example, if you keep your TV plugged in all the time even if you do not use them, don’t.

When you keep your TV plugged in, it consumes electricity continuously. So, unplug your TV, coffee maker, oven, etc. if you are not using them.

2. Set your refrigerator at the optimal temperature

If you are wondering what is the right temperature to set your fridge, it is between 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. In the case of the freezer, it is -18 degrees Celsius.

Don’t set the temperature too cold unnecessarily, which will consume a lot of electricity.

3. Make a habit of using cold water to wash clothes

When you wash your clothes with cold water, it will save a lot of energy. Also, washing clothes with cold water will make them last longer.

You can clean your clothes with warm water once in a while instead of washing regularly.

4. Use a clothes rack instead of drying in the dryer

Don’t dry your clothes in the dryer after you wash them. It takes a lot of energy to dry all of your clothes.

You can simply use a clothes rack. Hang all of your clothes there. Only dry the towels as they tend to get dried over air drying.

5. Turn off the light as soon as you leave the room

Make a habit of turning off the light as soon as you leave a particular room. For example. I always keep the lights of my bedroom off when I am in my study room or living area.

Teach your kids to do the same.

6. Run the dishwasher in full load

It is always a cost-saving idea to run the dishwasher with a full load. There is no need to turn on your dish 3-4 times a day.

You can wait for the dishwasher to get filled and then run it. That is how you will be saving a lot of energy.

7. Start using socket sealers

It can be installed in between the socket and cover. It will only cost you a few dollars to purchase one. It will save a lot of energy.

8. Turn off the shower while washing your body

When we shower, we use up to 12-14 liters of water every minute. That’s a lot if you think. Wet yourself with water and turn of the shower.

Turn on the shower once you are done shampooing and using soap. It will reduce your electricity bill. Also, more importantly, you will save water.

9. Get LED bulbs

Nowadays, almost everyone uses LED bulbs. These will cost you a bit more than the regular bulbs. But they are long-lasting.

You can save up to 20 dollars per month if you use these Led bulbs instead.

10. Adjust the temperature of your water heater

Usually, the temperature of the water heater is usually 140 Fahrenheit. That is how you will cost a lot of energy.

The Department of Energy suggests that you should keep the temperature of your water heater in 120 Degrees Fahrenheit.

11. Save energy during summer

Instead of using the AC all day long, close the blinds and keep your home cool. Do not use the air conditioner 24×7, where you can use other ideas to keep your room cool.

12. Use shower heads with low flow

You should use shower heads that will save you more money. You can purchase shower heads that will cause less flow than usual.

Nowadays, there are lots of faucets and showerheads available that you can use to save water.

13. Clean your filters and vents regularly

You can save a lot of energy by cleaning your filters and vents regularly. They will work better and consume less energy.

These are my 20 easy and probably the most effective ways to reduce electric bills. I believe it is all about getting used to these little habits.

Don’t take too much pressure if you do not see a drastic change in your electricity after the 1st month. Wait, and you will see the result.
