Unfortunately, the stain from popcorn butter doesn’t want to come off that easily. As butter puts a greasy and oily stain, you will need to wash it carefully.
It is a good idea to get the stain out as soon as possible. Otherwise, when the butter dries, it creates a hard stain on the cloth.
If you wash the stained cloth in a regular manner in a washing machine, the oil stain will be still there.
You will need to follow a different procedure. Below, we have provided a few methods to get rid of popcorn butter.
If one of these methods doesn’t work, you can use multiple methods for effective cleaning.
How to Get Popcorn Butter Out of Clothes
You can make a stain remover using water, castile soap, glycerin, and essential oil to remove popcorn butter from your cloth. Apply the mixture on the stained area. After waiting for an hour, wash the cloth in the washing machine. Using talcum powder also helps to get popcorn butter out of cloths.
Step 1: Use a stain fighter if the stain is strong
You can use a stain fighter if the stain doesn’t want to come off with a regular wash. After this, you can wash normally with a washing machine.
You can make a stain remover on your own. Take two cups of water and mix it with 2 tablespoons of castile soap.
Also, pour 2 tablespoons of glycerin in the mixture. At last, to give the mixture a nice and soothing smell, add 10 drops of essential oil in lemon flavor.
Step 2: Rub the mixture in the stain with your fingers
You can use your fingers to gently rub the mixture in the stained area. Wait for an hour so that the mixture gets soaked completely.
Then, you can wash the cloth with a washing machine. Use hot water to clean the cloth. Hot water will increase the possibility of removing a stain.
Before using hot water, read the label that comes with the cloth.
Step 3: Don’t use the dryer until the stain has been removed completely
Before using the dryer, always make sure that there is no stain or butter left on the cloth.
If you use a dryer with stain on the cloth, you will permanently make the stain sit in the cloth.
If there is still enough stain left in the cloth, you can use another method to clean the butter stain.
You can use dishwashing soap, which can be an effective method to remove butter stains from cloth.
Washing the cloth twice will be enough to remove the stain completely.
Step 4: Use dishwashing soap to get rid of the greasy stain
You might think that using dishwashing soap to clean cloth is a bad idea.
But dishwashing soaps are made with such ingredients that work well against oily and greasy materials.
At first, you will need to make the affected area wet with lukewarm water.
Then, take a small amount of dishwashing soap and apply it to the butter stain. Use your fingers to rub the area.
Make sure that the dishwashing soap reaches the stained areas.
Step 5: Clean with lukewarm water
Clean the cloth in a sink or a bowl with lukewarm water. Make sure that the water is not too hot, which can affect the material of your cloth.
Rinse the cloth until the soap gets washed away fully. You will need to make sure that you don’t spread the dishwashing soap on the other areas of the cloth.
Only wash the area where it is needed.
Step 6: Use talcum powder
Another effective method to get a popcorn butter stain out of cloth is to use talcum powder. At first, lay the piece of cloth on a flat surface.
Laying the cloth will prevent the talcum powder from spreading in other areas. Don’t rub the talcum powder against the stain.
Cover with multiple layers of powder depending on the amount of popcorn butter.
Step 7: Wait for the powder to sit and scrub with a toothbrush
Wait for about an hour to let the powder sit properly. Take a toothbrush and gently scrub against the stain.
You will see that there is no butter left on the cloth. You can use this method as the last step if the stain doesn’t get removed completely.
Step 8: Use baking soda to get popcorn butter out of cloth
Absorb the oil from the popcorn butter with a paper towel. It will remove the extra oil that may spread throughout the cloth.
Apply baking soda on the stain. Rub the area gently. Then, remove the baking soda with a brush. Then, apply a stain remover and wait for around 30 minutes.
Then, wash normally with a washing machine.
Step 9: Use a hair spray as the last resort
There is a great possibility that you will be able to successfully remove popcorn butter stain from the cloth by following the previous methods.
But if the stain doesn’t want to come off even after using all these methods, you can use a hair spray.
We will recommend not to use a hair spray unless you need to. Because hair spray might discolor your cloth.
To make sure that you are causing any damage to your cloth, test on a different cloth of similar color.
Wait for a few hours and see if the color remains the same. Spray the liquid on a cloth at first and then apply it to the affected area.
Rub the area with a toothbrush. After that, wash the cloth in the washing machine. Turn on the heat setting and use warm water to wash the cloth.
The heat will help to remove the butter easily.
Cleaning oily and greasy stains can be quite tough compared to other stains. But if you know the correct method, you will be able to get rid of oil stain in no time.
It is not possible to be careful always, make sure to have fun while watching a movie and enjoy your popcorn.
