Keeping a mattress clean increases its lifetime as well. Below are the steps which will help you to clean a mattress effectively.
How to Clean a Mattress
Before cleaning the mattress, you will need to remove the items placed on your mattress.
Remove the bedsheet, pillows and blanket. While you clean your mattress, you can also clean the pillow covers and bedsheets.
If you use a mattress cover, remove it as well. Throw all the items in your washing machine while you work with the mattress.
To get rid of the dust, you will need to vacuum your mattress. Always vacuum your mattress so that there is no dust or hair left on the mattress.
If there is any liquid spill on your mattress, you will need a wet cloth to remove it.
It is better not to use soapy water or warm water that might make the situation worse. Try absorbing the liquid with a clean cloth.
To get rid of any stain, you will need hydrogen peroxide and liquid soap. Take 1 tablespoon of liquid soap and tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide and mix it well.
Now take a soft toothbrush and dip it in the mixture.
Scrub the stained area in a circular motion and you will see that the stain is coming off gradually.
Make sure that you use a little amount of hydrogen peroxide in the case of memory foam mattresses.
If your mattress doesn’t smell good, you can use baking soda to get rid of the odor.
Take two tablespoons of baking soda and sprinkle all over your mattress. If the odor is strong, you can also apply a few drops of lemon or essential oil.
Now keep the mattress like this for around 20 to 30 minutes. As the last step, vacuum your mattress and let it dry in the fresh air.
You do not need to move the mattress for cleaning purposes. But if you need to move the mattress alone, here are some tips.
