Pros and Cons

This product is really awesome and it has a lot of great features, but there are a few things that need to be improved.

What We Like

  • It is completely automatic, meaning all you need to do is add water and plant capsules to start growing your plants. The device will take care of water and nutrient delivery.
  • There are no harmful substances like hormones, pesticides, or fungicides, so your plants will be healthy.
  • It’s very easy to put together and use – no gardening experience is required. Plus, it requires minimal maintenance and care.
  • This power-efficient system doesn’t considerably increase the electric bills.
  • Sleek and attractive design

What We Don’t Like

  • The grow light timing can’t be customized either
  • Plant height is limited due to the small soil capsules that affect root growth, so don’t expect high yields
  • While there are no harmful substances, you may find mold in the pods
  • Expensive refill plant pods

Bottom Line for the Smart Garden 9

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance way to grow plants indoors, the Click and Grow Smart Garden 9 is a safe bet. The body design is easy on the eyes, and you can choose plain colors from white, beige, and black to match with your home decor choices.

Whether you’re busy mom, or busy professional, or both! you’re going to appreciate the low-maintenance way of having a few fresh herbs and flowers right where you want it.

What Is It?

As the name implies, the Smart Garden 9 is one of the indoor self-contained gardens that allow you to grow nine plants at once since it comes with 9 plant pods. This smart device by Click and Grow is excellent for small spaces in any home, like a spot in your kitchen or a windowsill. If it doesn’t fit into your space, you can buy a smaller version of this Smart Garden with 3 plant pods.

Unlike traditional hydroponic growing systems, the Smart Garden indoor system doesn’t require adding nutrient solutions from time to time. Your plants will grow and be healthy without any additional nutrients. You will be able to grow everything from flowers to salad greens and herbs.

What’s the catch? It’s all about biodegradable soil-based plant pods that come with this system. They oxygenate the roots and stabilize pH levels while releasing all the necessary nutrients the indoor plants require to thrive. The garden has a passive watering system that operates through capillary action.

What Do You Get When You Open the Box?

Okay, now you have a better idea of what it is, but you’re probably wondering what is in the box. Aside from the Smart Garden 9 itself, you will also get the following items:

  • 9 plant pods – 3 plant capsules, each of which has three capsules per pack (3 x basil, 3 x green lettuce, and 3 x mini tomato)
  • Light bar with two supports
  • Individual pots
  • AC adapter
  • Pro gardener tips

Does the Click and Grow 9 come with four extension arms?

There is some confusion because in the beginning, the Click and Grow Smart Garden 9 came with four supports. That is, 2 sets of light bar extensions, to make it double high. You may have even seen a few official demo videos that included 2 sets of extension arms.

However, it became apparent that simply have 1 set of light bar extensions (2 supports) were needed. The plants grow tall enough with the 2 extension arms. The plants also have a tendency to get “too leggy” when the light bar is mistakenly made too high.
So, in the new version of the box, you will find only 2 supports for your light bar.

How to Set It Up

Step 1: Assemble the Lamp

Don’t use the garden if the lamp arms are not inserted beforehand. This means you will have to begin by putting the lamp together. The lamp arms should be placed on every side so that they are fitted in one direction only.

If you take a look at the water tank, you will notice a groove. Fit the arm of the lamp making sure it lines up with the groove on the same side.

Step 2: Insert the Plant Pods

The garden comes with Smart Soil pods. You need to insert them into the appropriate plant cups. There are U-shaped lids. Secure them in place – they will click when inserted.

Next, fit the germination domes. In addition to creating a greenhouse effect, they are also intended to stimulate plants to grow. Germination domes should be removed when the sprouts hit them.

Step 3: Name Your Plants

Label every plant cup to stay abreast of the plants that start to appear. Since the plant containers can be reused, you will be able to change the names of your plants on the next growing cycle by using a sticker or a washable marker.

Step 4: Fill the Tank

Now it’s time to add water. Fill the tank of your garden by pouring water into it as needed. The indicator of the water level should be at the top. Do not overwater!

As your plants absorb water from the soil, the indicator will slowly go down. Once it has reached the bottom, you will need to refill the tank. The water will last for 2-3 weeks.

Step 5: Plug It In and Enjoy Growing!

Right after plugging your garden in the wall socket, it will start to run immediately. Do it in the morning to prevent the lamp from being bright while you’re sleeping. Finally, the smart garden is all set!

You also need to fit the power cord. For a more elegant look, it should be hidden. All you need to do is lock the cable after pushing it into the groove on the garden tank. Simple as that!

How Does The Smart Garden Work?

Using this smart garden is super easy. It’s similar to capsule or pod coffee machines. Grab the power adaptor, plug it in, and add the plant pods. Also, make sure the water tank is filled all the time. That’s all!

You will get soiled and pre-seeded pods with the Smart Garden 9, including mini tomato, basil, and green lettuce. This means you’ll start off growing right away. That will be enough for the first month or so. Afterward, you may order refills and keep growing different plants.

The plant pods can be ordered and purchased online. Whether you’re looking to grow fruiting plants, vegetables, herbs, flowers, decorative plants, or salad greens, there is a wide selection of plants to pick from. For example, some popular choices include cornflower, wild strawberry, rosemary, oregano, arugula, and lavender. Of course, this smart system can also be used for your own seeds.

What Are the Benefits of Using the Smart Garden 9?

  • My favorite benefit? It’s plug and play! Sure, there’s a quick setup, but once the pods are in their respective holes, I don’t have to worry about anything. I just watch them grow and occasionally fill up the water tank. I have another plant in the home that I water weekly, so I check the water levels there. It is also something to look at while making coffee in the morning.
  • Automatic Watering: After adding water – the 135oz/4l tank can hold enough water for 4 weeks – the device will make sure your plants are hydrated at all times.
  • The ideal amount of light: The garden comes with pro-grow lights that can be customized.
  • Year-round growing: You’ll be able to grow over the winter months too.
  • A great selection of pre-seeded plant pods: There are more than 50 different pods available.
  • The companion app: It lets you know when to harvest your plants when they will start blooming, and much more.

Why Should You Have an Indoor Garden?

If you want to know the reasons to have an indoor garden, find inspiration with these ideas.

Gardening to elevate your mental health

The soothing energy of plants is hard to ignore. When you have them in your interior space, you can’t help but relax and feel invigorated with the green energy. It’s proven, by the way, that looking at green plants elevates your mood and helps you clear your head.

Add color to your interior design

When you have the Click and Grow, you’ve got the choice of decorative plants with different colors, as well as textures, like the fern and polka dot plant.

Sometimes these plants are edible as well as decorative, such as the pansy.

Here are our favorite indoor colors and textures:
  • Windowsill ferns – it’s true that the plants sprout better when placed next to the windowsill. you can enhance their growth and enjoy more fresh oxygen with texture beside your chosen windowsills
  • Polka dot plant – a staple and classic to add texture to your home decor
  • Busy Lizzie – we love it for its prolific flowering and quick growth.

Greens in your kitchen

There’s an excitement to growing your own food that goes beyond wondering how long your food has traveled to get to you.

When you have a Click and Grow or any aeroponic garden, you will be surprised how little space it requires to grow a few herbs for your culinary experience.

Takeaway

Growing plants indoors is means you have to follow the rule of thumb. That means you need proper soil, fertilizing, nursery, light, and water.

All of which, somehow, the Click and Grow and many aeroponic systems have prepared into a neat package for you.

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance method, such as if you’re a busy mom like me, or a low-time professional like my previous self, you’ll love the ease of the Click and Grow.

Unlike the Aerogarden, I don’t have to add fertilizers on an interval. Another thing, it doesn’t add extra noise to our already noisy household. After I place or clean and replace the plant pods, all I have to do is add water when the float looks low. It’s a simple enough task you can inspire other family members to watch for, too.

If you’re looking for something with more care, and if you like the idea of having some water noise in your home life (think spa-like), I think you wouldn’t mind the Aerogarden.

That’s a wrap on the Click and Grow Smart Garden 9 review. The Smart Garden 9 is great for people who want to grow fresh herbs, salad, and vegetables all year round. This self-sustainable indoor garden is easy to use and doesn’t require any knowledge about gardening.

That makes it perfect for the busy modern-day lifestyle. You will be able to grow your food at home, no matter the weather. Happy growing!
